Vivian and I both got employed in the same organization, but due to the Covid pandemic, we didn’t meet in person. However, we created a WhatsApp group where we all communicated and got to know each other through jokes and casual banter. During virtual work, She stood out as a hardworking colleague, taking her responsibilities seriously.
As time went by, our dissatisfaction with certain aspects of work grew, and we decided to send a mail to management expressing our concerns. Vivian advised us to talk to them unofficially first, but we proceeded with the mail. Just before sending it, she informed the group that she had spoken to a senior staff member, who advised patience. This angered the group, including myself, and we all quarreled her, leading Vivian to leave the group.
Concerned about why she left, I reached out to her and she explained the situation, tearfully. I convinced her to rejoin the group, and from there our friendship began, although it remained somewhat distant. We started talking more frequently, and I would jokingly refer to her as “my baby” as I did with everyone else. This brought us closer, and our conversations would often start with reactions to each other’s statuses.
In September 2021, she informed me that she would be visiting Lagos, and I suggested that we meet up. We had a great time reminiscing with my friends. Our relationship continued as it had been.
In October 2022, she announced another visit to Lagos, and I casually asked to take her for breakfast at Eric Kayser, unknowingly setting the stage for a life-changing event.
She came, we went out to Eric Kayser and everything that transpired as a result of that date brought us here.
How I met the LOML? My 001? My Sponsor? My Bulaba
Hahahahhaha, very funny story. The Morale? Do not judge a book from afar, read it first!
Fast forward to 2020, on getting a new employer in the heat of Covid. Recruits were onboarded virtually, so we were heavily into social apps to ‘meet’ our new colleagues. For most of my colleagues via our online interactions it was an avenue to try and make new friends etc., while for me, it was purely work, teamwork and more work. We had various Whatsapp groups where we interacted informally, however, we happened to be in same group. My friends know that I have never dated a co-worker. (Baby girl is too focused). Sha, when love finds you, all rules are thrown out the window (lol).
Our first personal interaction via DMs was when I left the group. I was upset by some responses over what I considered unnecessary. He reached out to ask me to return the group (sha I did small shakara for him but I had already reached out to an admin to re-add me, don’t judge me). After that there were private engagements to discuss all our ‘sauces’ flying upandan. Funny how I called him the ‘angry one’ as he would always get upset over the system ‘not working’ or our colleagues’ actions that did not sit well with working practices. We spoke about our previous jobs and how it was hard to leave. (Yinmu, how did you get here?).
Over time, we would interact on different issues, he liked that I was an exercise person, he commented on my rants, gave suggestions where necessary, calling me ‘baby’ here and there (which I hated then and continually responded with Sir), etc. I always referred to him as Oga, Sir, or said Thank you when he professed any kind of love/emotions. By December 2020, he started saying ‘that’s why I want to date you’ ‘I want to marry you’ “Accept my love’ etc. I was not even bothered because, firstly, we work for same employer, secondly, work is serious business for me, and I pegged it for cruise. We maintained professional distance and kept in touch sparingly.
I agreed to our first physical meet which was by chance sometime in September 2021 with some friends also colleagues at Bay lounge café when work brought me to his city. For someone who was very outspoken in our Whatsapp groups, very opinionated in my DM and very articulate in work scenarios, he came across as reserved (ah, na wash?).
To be very honest, I agreed to our first physical meet because I was not going to take his love professions seriously. E shock me, Bobo fine, very calm (this one na lie sha) and ah, I sha ran back to my base and limited interactions to the groups, but I already saw him in a different light.
Our first date changed a lot of misconceptions I had about him, we hit it off instantly. He argues we started dating same day but for me it was the day he officially asked . I am excited to spend the rest of my days with him, share adventures and build our home.
As weeks turned into months, our bond grew stronger. September 3, 2021, marked a turning point in our relationship as it was the day had our first physical meeting. Just a regular day but brimming with excitement and possibility. We were surrounded by a group of friends as we ventured into the enchanting neighborhood of Lekki, where laughter floated freely in the air. As usual, we shared stories, exchanged banter and discovered new layers of each other’s personalities which sparked a connection that set our hearts ablaze.
For our first private date, Isaiah asked Vivian (who was visiting Lagos on official assignment) to dinner. October 5, 2022, became a cherished memory etched deeply into our souls. In a quaint location called Eric Kayser in Ikoyi, we sat across from each other, eyes locked, hearts beating in a dance of longing and affection. Every word uttered, every nervous smile exchanged, amplified the undeniable chemistry that had begun to blossom within our hearts. It was in that moment that we realized our connection was something truly special.
On November 19, 2022, we took a leap of faith and delved into a new chapter. Isaiah officially asked me to be his babe. Plenty talk over great food at Catus and a Yes! Sealed the night. Our journey to forever was sealed officially because we both knew that we were courting and straight the altar! We have nurtured a love that was destined to grow and flourish. We are confident in our commitment to each other and have whole heartedly embraced the joys and challenges faced on the way.
And then, in a moment that would forever etch itself into our story, September 10, 2023, arrived. Mr. Romantic Isaiah, knowing deep within his heart that we are forever, chose this day to make his grand gesture. While surrounded by family and friends, with bated breath and trembling hands, he got down on one knee, unveiling a glistening ring as he poured out his heart in a proposal of everlasting love. Overwhelmed with emotion, your hard girl accepted, with heart filled with joy, face beaming with the widest smile and our love was sealed in that precious moment.
From the whispers of fate to the echoes of destiny, our love story proved that even amidst chaos, love knows no bounds. Our journey began in the unlikeliest of circumstances, but our connection transcended physical barriers. Ours is a love that sparked in the virtual world, blossomed on unforgettable dates, and found its foundation in trust and devotion.
May our love story continue to unfold with chapters of laughter, tenderness, and unwavering affection. Let it be a testament to the power of love’s resilience and the beauty that can emerge from the most unexpected of circumstances.
Your presence is our greatest gift, but if you wish to contribute in another way, a monetary gift would be sincerely appreciated to help us start our new chapter together and build our home.
